Face Reading Part 2

Face JPEG

For thousands of years, face reading (or Mien Shiang) has been performed by Eastern medicine practitioners. Combine Western (analyzing the surface) with Eastern (what’s happening internally) techniques to deliver a unique and insightful consultation.

According to the traditional Chinese medicine your right cheek corresponds to the metal elements which on its side are related to the lung and large intestine network. Also, breakout, eczema, mild acne or redness could be a sign of a cold is coming on. Asthma or any other respiratory problems may also show visual symptoms on your right cheek.

Left cheek corresponds to the wood element which is connected to the liver of the human’s body. In addition, any changes on the skin of you left cheek could be a sign of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, inflammation or congestion of toxins in the liver. Changes in this part of your face could be a sign for emotional issues such as depression.

Your nose corresponds to the earth element which indicates a connection to the stomach, spleen and pancreas network. Excessive worry and stress as well as eating deep-fried fatty food or lots of chocolate could result in changes of your nose skin such as redness or broken capillaries.

EAST :

EYES. PUFFINESS & DARK CIRCLES => related to liver and kidneys; imbalance of fluids, sodium retention, sluggish organ function. It could also mean mental stress or anger; dehydration or poor elimination. Solution: Focus on improving hydration and sleeping habits.

NOSE & UPPER CHEEKS REDNESS => Due to the heart; inflammation of organs; heightened blood pressure. Solution: Calm and hydrate

LOWER CHEEKS BREAKOUTS & CONGESTION => related to the lungs; smoking, asthma, allergies, cold; cardio exercise-sweating.  Solution: Focus on cleansing and exfoliation.

WEST :

EYES. PUFFINESS & DARK CIRCLES => lack of sleep; allergies; heredity. Solution: the must-have product for tired, puffy eyes is glo-therapeutics Eye Restore.

NOSE & UPPER CHEEKS REDNESS => recent cold or allergies; improper extraction techniques. Furthermore, it could point to early stages of rosacea. Solution: Hydrate with glo-therapeutics Soothing Gel mask.

LOWER CHEEKS BREAKOUTS & CONGESTION => irritating, comedogenic
cosmetics; phones/hand resting on face. Solution: Focus on cleansing and exfoliation. Also try glo-therapeutics Daily Polishing Cleanser.

Face Reading Part 1

face reading

Have you heard about Chinese medicine and what is it about? Have you ever thought that your body finds a way to tell you about the imbalances within it? Let’s look at differences between East and West on the forehead and between brows.

According to the traditional Chinese medicine each part of your face (forehead, nose, chin, right cheek, left cheek) is connected to the Chinese 5-Element network (fire, earth, water, metal, and wood) and it gives you a visual indication of what may be going on in the organs of your body.

In some cases, the visual signs your body gives you will alert you for the problem right away, but the biggest value of knowing and reading your body language is in acting preventatively through herbal supplementation, diet and least but not last lifestyle practices.

Based on the 5-Element network forehead reflects the fire element. Examining your forehead and finding small blood vessels that appear as discoloration or redness could also be a sign of a heart problem. Moreover, breakup or loss can cause discoloration. In addition, it is not unusual for very emotional people to see a constant furrow between their eyebrows.

Eastern medicine practitioners have been performing face reading (or Mien Shiang) for thousands of years. Combine Western (analyzing the surface) with Eastern (what’s happening internally) techniques for a unique, interesting and fun way to look at the skin.

EAST:

FOREHEAD (Digestive system & bladder)  Breakouts => need to eliminate toxins. Solutions: try drinking more water and eating more unprocessed, natural foods. Dry, flaky skin above brows => lack of vegetables in diet. It could also indicate too much wheat. Horizontal lines => represent a life lesson learned or experience gained.

BETWEEN BROWS (Liver)  Breakouts or congestion => consuming too many rich, oily foods, dairy or alcohol (may indicate food allergy). Therefore, it’s often called the “wine & dine” area since it’s linked to rich foods and late-night eating!

WEST

FOREHEAD  Breakouts: Possible cause => hats, bangs, hair products, improper removal of hair products or face cleanser along the hairline. Solutions: focus on deep cleansing and purifying the skin. Clear Anti-BlemishTreatment, Refining Clay Mask, Renew Serum help to get rid off inflamed breakouts.  Pigmentation & Lines. Possible cause => sun exposure, repetitive facial movements. Solutions: focus on tightening and brightening: Cyto-luxe collection, Triple Action Serum, SPF 40 Facial Moisturizer will greatly help improve your skin.

BETWEEN BROWS Breakouts or congestion => Improper hair removal techniques, not cleansing properly or exfoliating enough. Professional skin treatments and corrective home care products are necessary.

New Treatments: IPL Therapy

new treatments

As we enter the New Year and settling into our new location in Brighton, we are happy to introduce new treatments using IPL technology. IPL or Intense Pulsed Light Technology utilizes specific wavelengths of light to target various skin conditions. Our licensed estheticians Irina and Lana perform various treatments using ILP that include hair removal, skin rejuvenation, pigmentation therapy, acne therapy and vascular therapy.

Hair removal

First, it is a pain-free treatment for permanent hair reduction to eliminate unwanted hair. The light is absorbed by the melanin in the hair, with the highest concentration of it located in the bulb (root) of the hair. As the heat from the light weakens the bulb, hair falls out and unable to re-grow in the same place. The number of treatments will be determent by your esthetician.

Services for Him - IPL Hair Removal

Skin rejuvenation

It is also a process that improves signs of aging including wrinkles, loss of skin tone and elasticity.  The wavelengths of light penetrate the skin and stimulate collagen production. As a result, wrinkles smooth out and the skin becomes more elastic. Your esthetician will determine the number and frequency of the treatment for the best results.

Pigmentation Therapy

Furthermore, it eliminates dark spots (freckles and age spots) caused by sun exposure. The pulses of light are absorbed by the excess melanin and cause melanin sells to break up, leaving the skin more even.  The number of treatments will depend on the level of sun damage and will be determent by your esthetician. To prevent further damage use at least SPF 30 moisturizer every day.

Acne therapy

In addition, it treats active acne, prevents future acne breakouts and improves acne scars.  The pulsating light penetrates through the tissues and destroys acne caused by bacteria in the skin and overproduction of oil by the oil glands.  In addition, in treating acne scars IPL reduces redness and discoloration for more even skin tone. The number of treatments will be determent by your esthetician.

Vascular Therapy

Lastly, IPL treats dilated capillaries and cherry spots. Hemoglobin in the blood vessels absorbs the light while the heat injures the vessel walls causing the vessels to collapse. Consequently, the body discards the collapsed vessels in a natural way. With each treatment, the affected area will be less red. Moreover, only one session is necessary for minor vascular abnormalities. Bigger treatments would require several treatments and your esthetician will determine that.

IPL is non-invasive, virtually painless and extremely effective. Make an appointment for a consultation today and we will design a personal treatment plan to target your specific needs.

The Science Of Vitamin C and Anti-aging

What do we know about free radicals and how they relate to the aging process?

Free radicals are molecules that are missing an electron in their outer rings, making them unstable. UV rays, pollution, cigarette smoke and stress are all things that expose us to these free radicals. Free radicals are also thought to cause a number of skin conditions related to aging, including skin darkening, inflammation, and the breakdown of collagen and elastin – elements that make the skin plump and youthful. Years of exposure to free radicals causes our skin to show signs of aging.

Advancements and discoveries in modern skin care have resulted in a solution in the form of antioxidants. As an antioxidant, L-ascorbic Acid (also known as Vitamin C) has garnered serious attention. Research shows that it stimulates collagen production, while simultaneously working as an anti-inflammatory to speed up wound healing. While eating your citrus every day is certainly healthy, it alone will not be effective in the fight against the aging process. When ingested, a very small percentage of Vitamin C actually reaches the skin. Topical application is necessary for maximum skin care benefit. L-ascorbic Acid is the only form of topical Vitamin C every morning for protection against free radical damage. You start seeing the results in as little as 8-12 weeks.

Vitamin C is really good for your health and skin but when it is exposed to air it becomes oxidized and ineffective. Be sure that you use stable Vitamin C in your skin care products in order to reduce inflammation, build collagen and elastin.

WHAT YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR IN A VITAMIN C SERUM

The right pH: Studies show pH needs to be between 2.0 – 3.8 in order for Vitamin C serums to be effectively absorbed into the skin. All of our glo therapeutics Vitamin C serums fall in this range for maximum efficacy.

In addition, clinical studies show the chirally correct form of Ascorbic Acid is the only form of Vitamin C the body recognizes. Therefore, it can utilize to help support collagen synthesis. Choose a Vitamin C serum that uses L-ascorbic Acid. You guessed right, all glo therapeutics Vitamin C serums utilize L-ascorbic Acid.

Added benefits: Supporting ingredients can boost the antioxidant benefits of Ascorbic Acid. Consider a serum like Ultra 15% Vitamin C serum which harnesses advanced supporting ingredients.

Note: The dark amber bottle our Vitamin C serums come in protects the serum from sunlight to preserve its efficacy.

Make an appointment at our Brookline skin care studio and you will experience the benefits of Vitamin C for your skin.

What is BB cream?

BB cream is a multifunctional cream that is known as a Beauty Balm, Blemish Base or Brilliant Beauty.

The cream could brighten skin like a lightener and even skin tone like a foundation. Moreover, it can treat acne like a breakout treatment, hydrate like a moisturizer & protect like a sunscreen.

A German dermatologist invented the concept back in 1960’s. She needed a product that would protect and sooth the skin of her patients after laser treatment, peels and surgery. In 1980’s the product became very popular for its lightning properties among Japanese and South Korean young television soap stars that were camera-ready with their porcelain white complexions.

The BB cream is a great option for women that do not have a lot of time or desire to apply several products in the morning. Our version of the BB cream is Sheer Tint Base. It is made with a blend of  antioxidants vitamin A, C, E & green tea extract. Sheer tint base delicately covers flaws while providing skin with a sheer, healthy glow. Vitamin A is a powerful exfoliant, that decreases sebum (an oily secretion of the sebaceous glands) production and treats acne. Vitamin C improves skin elasticity, decreases wrinkles by stimulating collagen synthesis. It also promotes wound healing, and repairs sun damage. Vitamin E fights off free radicals that cause the signs of aging, repairs dry, rough skin. In addition, green tea extract lightens skin, fights inflammation, rejuvenates skin cells and prevents skin cancer.

Stop by our studio in Brighton and we will find the perfect shade of sheer tint base to match your skin tone.
