Women in their 50’s are self confident, accepting and compassionate. Sadly, one aspect of 50’s that is hard to control is effects of the menopause on the skin and body. Free radicals and environmental elements have taking the toll in the skin’s ability to repair and elastin and collagen production have significantly declined but there are ways to keep your skin looking fresh and radiant.

Clean & Condition at once

– cleaning the skin in imperative at any age but gently cleansing is especially important now. The Neck

– most of us often forget to treat the neck but it is an essential part of keeping the skin fresh and youthful. The neck has less of sebaceous glands and with less oil production skin is often dehydrate. Try Neck Firming Serum that promotes the appearance of a tighter, firmer and smoother neck. Innovative ingredients provide a remodeling effect by boosting collagen and Hyaluronic Acid production. As a result, the combined lifting action, brighteners and anti-aging properties give a more youthful-looking neck.

Fight Age Spots

– nobody like to see age spots and hyperpigmentation. A way to lighten up the age spots is to use products with powerful ingredient Hydroquinone that lightens the skin. Consider our Triple Action Serum that helps inhibit the production of melanin, clears skin and refines texture. How to Prevent and Treat Chapped Lips

To continue with our theme of cold weather and skin, today let’s talk about lips.

Skin on our lips is one of the thinnest on our body and has only a few oil glands to keep them moisturized. Low temperatures and wind in addition to breathing with an open mouth and lip licking, all can result in chapped lips. Chapped or cracked lips occur due to evaporation of moisture from the lips. You may think, by constantly licking lips you are adding moisture but the opposite is true, by licking lips you are removing thin oily film that is produced by the oil glands leaving the lips dehydrated.

It is a common belief that petroleum jelly (Vaseline) is a cure for chapped lips. It does help with moisture loss but does not cure the chapped lips, by itself petroleum jelly does not add any moisture back to the lips. In our opinion petroleum jelly is not a healthy alternative to cure chapped lips because it contains mineral oils, wax and paraffin. For better and healthier choice try products with natural oils and vitamins.

Our favorite products for healthy lips are:

Mint or Cherry Balm – Nourishing botanicals heal lips and  keep lips soft & supple, while a full spectrum SPF 15 protects.

-SPF 15 – active ingredients: Octyl Methoxycinnamate (7.5%) and Oxybenzone (3%)

– Hemp seed oil – an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties, prevents skin damage and premature aging

– Meadowfoam seed oil – prevents moisture loss, reduces wrinkles and visible signs of aging, is a natural lubricant

– Mango seed butter –  treats skin cracks and small wounds, heals sunburn and frost bites, treats the dry skin

Irina’s favorite is Cherry Balm, “it’s delicious and feels so smooth on lips”.

Liquid Lips and Gloss – A high shine, luxurious formulation for an ultra-moist look that lasts, while rich nutrients condition and protect. Contains an exclusive antioxidant blend of vitamins A, C, E and green tea extract. Contains conditioning ingredients such as sunflower and sunflower seed oil. Sunflower seed oil helps skin retain moisture, helps with skin regeneration, contains Vitamins A, B, D and E, and omega 9 fatty acids.

Protect Skin in Cold Weather

Thanksgiving is right around the corner…so is the winter, so are the low temperatures.  Cold, dry air and heat both dehydrate our skin; leaving it dry, itchy and irritated. There are several ways to keep your skin hydrated during the winter months.

One way is to moisture the air in your house or office by using a humidifier. Humidifier adds moisture to the air by releasing water vapors.

Another way to help your skin feel less dry and itchy is to avoid long and hot showers, because they dehydrate the skin. You should also add a body moisturizer  to your daily routine.   After bath or shower, towel dry your body without rubbing and apply moisturizer while your body is not completely dry.  Don’t forget about your hands. Our hands tend to dry and age first, because there are no oil glands to keep them hydrated. If possible, apply hand lotion after each hand wash. Ask us about the body moisturizer and hand cream that we offer.

Now, let’s talk about skin care for your face.  To make sure your skin stays hydrated, don’t forget to exfoliate at least once a day, using daily polish or scrub and follow these steps as your daily skin care regimen:

Step one:  use gentle milky cleanser to remove make up and wash away any dirt from the pores; towel dry, do not rub.

Step two:  use tonic to balance, hydrate and purify the skin. Before the tonic is completely absorbed by your skin, apply serum.

Step three: use serum to protect, enhance, increase hydration, and sooth the skin. Before serum is completely absorbed by your skin, apply moisturizer.

Step four: use moisturizer to seal in the moisture from tonic and serum and to add antioxidant-rich blend of moisturizing ingredients.

Use a moisturizer with at least SPF 15 (even in the winter) to protect your skin from the sun.

Please ask us for products that will work best for your skin, like cold weather cleanser, tonic, serum and moisturizers for face and body.
